Two questions for The Car Guy...

I like what's going on here in the forums, and it seems like something really good. However, I notice that if I enter the Forums, it notes that there are 48 total topics (should become 49 once this is posted) but it's only showing the first 20, and there are no buttons or links to move on to a page 2 or page 3 of topics. I know right now I can dance around that a little by filtering by category, but that will only work for so long. As time goes on, most posts are probably only valid for a short period of time, but there probably will be some oldie but goodie posts that should still be accessible even after they get to be a year or two old. Any thoughts about being able to have multiple pages in the forums instead of only the 20 most recent/active per category?

Second question, seeing the NHTSA data is really helpful, but I wonder if this website and forum could possibly be used to generate its own data somehow. Perhaps have some sort of data collection mechanism where people on the site could submit data on things like user experience, what repairs had to be done to their vehicle, and how often it was serviced and what was done. To some extent, I feel like I'm describing CarFax, but what I think would be different would be is that the data could be taken, anonymized, and aggregated across different models/trims of vehicles, and then display the aggregate data in useful ways that might help identify issues or trends. Perhaps now I'm just describing Consumer Reports. Anyways, thoughts on this?

Thanks for the feedback I do appreciate it. I'll look at updating the forum to display more topics on the first page with maybe an infinite scroll type feature, I should probably create a better way to search as well 😃.

I thought about allowing people to submit their own complaints, but then I removed the feature because I didn't want users to feel like they were sharing their experience, but then NHTSA doesn't get that data, and the manufacturers are never held accountable. I do think your suggestion will work for other things though like...non-complaint style data, that's a great idea.

You got my wheels turning now, I appreciate it truly. There is a lot of value in crowd sourced data.
